The weeds were taller than me growing through debris of concrete...

Gazebo, Raised Garden Beds, And Weed Free Pathways

I bought a house from a hoarder.

The day I took possession of the house, I walked in to this small backyard with semi-fallen fence and concrete debris. Weeds of all descriptions grew through garbage and concrete. I looked up to avoid their thorns... They looked surreal and out of place in my clean neighborhood populated mostly by the Italians and the Greeks.

They had tomatoes taller then me, I had weeds.

Our yard design idea was as follows:
- make raised beds to grow flowers and veggies
- instead of slope, create levels using 4x4s
- and use river stones on the path.
- Build gazebo in the shady area. Since the gazebo had to be raised by the code, hide all those pieces of concrete under it.

My yard is a paradise in the city now. People compliment it a lot, they adore the laid back, natural atmosphere that we have created. Bumble bees hover over my echinacea and lavender, kids love the raspberries and grapes I planted along the fence.

I attached some pictures - unfortunately, I did not find the picture made from the second floor so that you could see the whole layout

Cheers,
Olga
